Warned in advance that Iceland was both expensive and not welcoming to vegetarians, we were delighted with this restaurant in central Reykjavik. So much so, we ate there three times in a week. Situated on the first floor of a corner street just off Reykjavik's main shopping street, the restaurant is spacious and decorated with a warm yellow, and large photo close-ups of various fruit and vegetables. The large Welsh dresser to one side gives the feeling of a home kitchen or dining room. The menu changes every day, although they tend to offer a curry or Thai dish on Fridays and Saturdays. There are usually two or three main courses to choose from, largely pulses, grain dishes, or pasta, plus salad and homemade breads. We went for lasagne one night, a curry the next, and then a great lentil pie. The deserts were very good, with a choice of at least four. I enjoyed the pecan pie with a crispy, almost meringue base. The restaurant was quiet but friendly, and from one window you can see down the street to the sea. Organic wine is available, as are various beers and juices. We were delighted by this place and would recommend a visit. Q Tips
