Exchange Bar/Diner, St Andrews Quay, Hull

St Andrews Quay, Hull

I did not know it was possible to go to a restaurant, or should I say "Bar Diner", and have one of the worst experiences with food I could have. To give you a clue they say things like. "Hi my name is Jane and Ill be your waitress for the evening". This may sound good on the films, but when you hear it with a Hull accent it sounds pathetic. They don’t have waiters or waitresses, no Chef or kitchen assistants. They have "crew members" I don’t know if this means that you get served any better but you always get things like "enjoy your meal". Now I don’t mind good service and caring staff. But I don’t want to be told to enjoy my meal by a bimbo who frankly couldn’t care if I enjoyed it or not. Onto the name. Yes Its the Exchange on St Andrews quay.

The menu is full of interesting things like Clam Chowder and home style fries etc. But there is nothing in this plastic place to inspire the taste buds. On my visit the Chowder was watery soup with a few clams thrown in and had the colour of dirty dishwater. The Home-Style fries are fat frozen chips. Mind you that is home-style fries for some people.

I frankly feel sorry for the chef if they have one. His main job it is probably to open the pre-prepared packets of food and put them in the microwave. (hey, mind you don’t cut yourself with those scissors).

My recommendations is if you have money to waste, no taste buds, like frozen food and enjoy been patronised then still don’t go there. Why do I say that? Well what are friends for. George T.
