| The pretty village of Hartfield is notable for its connections with AA Milne and Pooh Bear and the Anchor Inn is one of a small clutch of pubs serving the small but regular tourist trade of people wanting to fling little sticks into the river.
Its with some pleasure, then, that I can report that the Anchor Inn is an unqualified triumph. There are three large rooms, one quiet, one bar-like with roaring fire and one where the majority of diners congregate to eat mounds of honestly priced hot home made grub. All the usuals are here, some lovely relics from the past - I had a fantastic piping hot corned beef hash - and some of the new pub standard favourites - Q had a mountain of spicy hot "tex mex style" chilli concarne. Service is prompt and smiley and you get an overwhelming feeling that these people really know what they are doing. Well done - we'll be back. M |
