seems to have drifted around and over the Brecknock Arms in Bells
Yew Green near Frant in Kent. In this Brigadoon pub, with its small
pretty back garden, the menu feels just slightly post second world
war with gammon steak (and pineapple, natch), a variety of steaks,
battered haddock or cod and, hallelujah, bacon and onion pudding.
Service was guarded but pleasant (“you're not from around these parts”-
style) and the portions were hearty, hot and filling. There are some
nice personal touches about this place too. As we arrived we were
almost trampled over by a crowd of old (some very old) people as on
Tuesdays to Thursdays they have a special cheapo OAP menu.We were
also very taken with the offer to re-heat our slightly deranged and
frantic three year olds' food as she charged around the garden. Not
a destination pub but pleasant and you don't even need your ration
book. M |
