Ginseng Restaurant & Brasserie
1-2 Well Court, Bank St, Sevenoaks. Kent. TN13 1UN.
A lovely evening so we decided to head to Ginseng where you can eat in the courtyard. A second visit from us, was impressed the first time but have also heard comments that it's "up its own @rse". I beg to differ, the prices may be slightly OTT but it's a lovely, modern restaurant with swift and friendly staff. Also, the prawn crackers you get first are amongst the best I've tasted, crispy and non-greasy with, shock-horror, a clear taste of prawns. We plumped for the specials board - Malaysian steak, red maneng prawns, special fried rice, mange tout with bean sprouts and a bottle of gewurztraminer. The Malay steak was suffering from being in a sauce akin to the usual Chinese curry, not a fave of mine. The prawns went down rather better. The veg was very nice but heinously overpriced at £4. The wine list generally seems to keep to about 100% markup - entirely usual. Overall, they could offer slightly larger portions and lower prices. However, from a previous visit, the duck and the crispy starter selectas were aces. Give it a try.
