Business lunches are the most awful things in the world, aren’t they? I have a golden rule which, I am pleased to say, is quite opposite to the received wisdom in these matters. Always, but always, have alcohol. It works well both ways. Your lunch partner either gets the jitters and feels forced to get alcohol too – only the one mind, because they’re driving – or they get the jitters and have Perrier. Either way you get the drink. And I don’t drive anyway.
Giorgio’s is made for business lunches. It’s a moderately priced large, airey basement brasserie with bright, modern furnishings and an equally bright and breezy staff. Its Italian in name but corporate gastro-bar in feel with a menu full of the usual suspects of med-rim con-fusion.
As with most of these places there is a cracking lunchtime special menu and I plumped for a steakburger on focaccia with crunch-fresh leaves and a wickedly spicy, chunky salsa. Very tasty indeed.
Not expensive, nice open feel and worth a visit. M
