| Saturday afternoon and another new italian has popped up in 'Sunny Tunny' Wells. There are quite an array now, you have Carluccio's, Fillipo's, St Agostino, The Sicilian, Woods then of course the highly revered Signor Franco. Add to this the chain restaurants of ASK, Zizzi and to a lesser extent Pizza Organic and for a town of Tunbridge Wells' stature you would be forgiven for thinking we had quite enough. Enter Prezzo, a new modern restaurant occupying an old bank building next to the ghastly Wetherspoons.
From outside it certainly looks the business and has a nice spiral staircase inside. We decided to give it a go as you do when a new eating establishment opens and were immediately seated next to the window. It appeared that this was a complete 'no smoking' restaurant, but after reading a menu I took home later, they only don't allow pipes & cigars.... fair enough in my book. We started of with a salad each, these were both fresh and tasty affairs and both reasonably well presented with rocket, tomatoes, mushrooms, parmesan etc etc.... However, it was the mains that really surprised me, they certainly surpassed expectation for a 'chain' restaurant. My partner went for the Red pesto & Mozarella burger. This was a big meaty affair, which my partner exclaimed was one of the best burgers she had ever had. It had just a subtle red pesto flavour and was obviously hand made using decent mince. It was served in ciabatta with rocket along with a healthy portion of fries. I had the Spaghetti con Gamberetti, which comprised of red chilli, garlic, fresh rocket and tasty prawns in a tomato sauce. This again was very nice. The spaghetti itself was a little dull but the other flavours managed to make up for that. It may just be that they put extra effort in because it was the opening weekend, I mean there were far too may staff, but I really hope they maintain the standard here as it is well priced and perfect for lunch or a informal evening meal. I have decided to approve for now, but will wait with baited breath to see if they can indeed keep this up.
