Spinach, spinach spinach. They like their spinach here, and when its this good and in so many varieties, why not? This fine pub nestles comfortably in the middle of nowhere. It has one of the warmest and cosiest interiors I have experienced, probably something to do with the low beams and roaring log fire! So on a cold , blustery weekday evening we headed down here.

There is a choice of two menu's, you have your snack menu and then the a la carte, you can mix and match if that be your wish. We were served by Sue and Lisa, who were attentive but not overpowering, quite the right balance in fact. So to the starters, I opted for the tiger prawns on a bed of salad, with a sweet chilli dip. This was really something else. The dip appeared to be homemade and was quite delicious, sweet but with a nice zing(!) to it, the prawns being excellent. She who must be obeyed, went for the fish cake served with spinach and a horseradish and tartare dip. I tried the dip out of curiosity and was most impressed, the fish cake also getting a thumbs up. For our mains we opted for the Fillet steak on a bed of wilted spinach(!) with roasted new potatoes and a wild mushroom and port jus. Outstanding was the verdict. Well presented and the jus laid out thoughtfully, it was rich but you were able to choose where you wished it to be. Looking at the menu I noticed most dishes were accompanied with spinach, the thought of garlic spinach certainly interested me. The menu comprised of something for everyone, lamb, salmon, tuna, pork and the beer battered fish looked very good. She who must be obeyed, managed to fit in a cherry pie with cream, how she did is beyond me because I was extremely full, she certainly seemed impressed. A lovely evening was finished by me snugly sat in front of the fire nearly drifting off, then begrudgingley drifting back out to the cold weather outside. I beleive it is always worth booking a table. Verdict: Faultless. TheLa
