Vancouver's population is now 40% Asian, and a high proportion of these are East Asian, mainly Hong Kong Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and Malaysian. Most of the other diners here were young East Asians, probably a mixture of Malaysian and Japanese. The menu is helpfully illustrated with photographs of each dish including sampler dishes with a bit of everything; we chose the seafood and the vegetarian version. Obviously this is what non Malays always have, because the waiter opened the menu at that page and asked which of the samplers we wanted. Uncomfortable, because nobody likes being reduced to a stereotype, do they? The young (Japanese?) man at the next table was OK because his girlfriend was Malaysian, explained the menu to him and ordered for them. She even asked for chopsticks for him (Malaysians use knives and forks) The food was really outstanding. Special mention goes to the pickled vegetables, the tofu and turmeric rice, but we left nothing on our plates. Desserts looked interesting: L had deep fried banana, I had jack fruit because I'd never had it before. It's OK, not as good as lychee though. Prices were moderate, service excellent.
