Whitechapel is full of "Indian" restaurants, and 90% of them are run by Bangla Deshis. Nothing wrong with that, but Lahore gives the impression of being truly Indian, and the menu certainly has few of those run of the mill staples we all know and love. The clientele was 90% male and a wonderful ethnic mix, I guess most of them worked at the nearby London and Barts hospitals. We were seated quickly, every table gets a salad and raita straight away (excellent) There's also a bottle of Hildon water on each table, but if you check the menu it's £2 (not excellent at all) We asked for a jug of tap water and got one - no fuss.

My Paneer Tikka was small, tender and delicious, L's Seekh Kebab also good, but the star of the meal was my Masala Fish. It was probably cod, dry-fried in spices with fresh coriander and one of the tastiest morsels to have passed my lips since the old queen died. L's had Lamb Chop Curry (Friday only) because it happened to be Friday and you don't like to waste a Friday, somehow. It was great, but you can't help wondering why they can't make it on Thursdays, or Mondays. To drink I had mango lassi, L had salt lassi and we left feeling replete and very happy. And if either of us (me, for example) had been taken ill suddenly, I would have been instantly surrounded by dozens of young doctors...

lahore kebab house

its not an indian restaurant !!! or bengali the owners are Pakistani's from the Punjab.......its like calling a turk a greek ..........or a welshman ..an englishman or a politician honest ......

It's a fair cop

Fair enough, your knowledge is greater than mine. But I'm aware of my ignorance, which is why I gave "Indian" and "gives the impression of being truly Indian" quotation marks. However, if I'd given it more thought, instead of going on about the gorgeous young doctors, I'd have realised that Lahore is in Pakistan. Sorry.
