Trawlers, 32-34 Church Street, Seaford E. Sussex BN25 1LD
32-34 Church Street, Seaford E. Sussex BN25 1LD 01323 892520 There's only one good thing about Trawlers - everything else is abysmal. When we walked in, we could have lowered the average age significantly, but we had our 86 year old Uncle with us. However, he walks with a stick, which is right on trend for Trawlers. The tables are densely packed, and all the chairs have splayed legs, so manoeuvering around this dismal restaurant is a challenge even for the young and able bodied. When we arrived at 12.30 on a wet Friday, the place was already packed with wrinklies, we had to go up the rubber ramp to the even dingier bit at the back. "Do you want a menu ?" yelled the waitress Uncle wanted the cod, but was worried about eating an endangered species. We said "Look, the cod's dead now - someone's going to eat it, it might as well be you" His face lit up "Good point!" S and I ordered haddock, we all had our fish grilled, with chips, Uncle had a gherkins, we had mushy peas. And that's the reason we keep returning to Trawlers, and the reason it's packed out every day - the food. The furniture is horrible, the decor was already dated in 1979, the service is "no nonsense" and the cliéntele entirely glamour free. There is absolutely nothing to recommend Trawlers, apart from the fish and chips. Huge portions of good fresh fish and proper chips (could have been a bit fatter for my taste, but, ahem, I managed to force them down) And that's why I've given them Approved, really. Every time I've been there, I've ended up with a decent plate of hot fresh food in front of me. No points for style, service or anything else, but if you're in Seaford and you fancy fish and chips - this is the place
