Duke of York, North Street, Shepton Beauchamp, Ilminster, Somerset, TA19 0LW
North Street, Shepton Beauchamp, Ilminster, Somerset, TA19 0LW 01460 240314 The Duke of York is one of those pubs that from the outside you just know you just want to go into and have a pint. When you venture through the door you are instantly relieved to find that it is as welcoming on the inside, as it is on the out. With its log burner roaring away to your left and a traditional bar in front of you, I was soon attracted to the wide choice of real ales that awaited me. We were in the area for the weekend and were mid-walk and were welcomed in, hiking boots and all. Having finally chosen which of the real ales we needed to fortify ourselves for the second half of our trek we looked at the lunch menu which is best described as good honest traditional pub fayre – which to the best of my knowledge was freshly prepared and proved to be frankly, delicious. We so enjoyed our experience and were so tempted by their evening menu (completely different to their lunchtime offerings) that we booked for dinner that night. This proved to be a sumptuous affair with such things as scallops on a bed of salad with black pudding, which we enjoyed in the slightly more formal, but never the less relaxed, restaurant area, which is situated to the rear of the pub. Our meal was complimented with a superb wine list. I’m a keen ‘pub goer’, but I have to say it’s very rare to find an establishment that truly ticks all your boxes. A must for anyone visiting the area. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. DD.123 |
