This street is lined on either side with dozens of restaurants, and we chose this one not because it had the same name as the street, but simply because they had a free table outside. They have 3 set menus: at 14, 18 and 20 euros respectively and you get three courses for that, or you can go a la carte. We went for the 18 euro menu: my asparagus mayonnaise was OK, the fine fat asparagus spears were tinned but tasty, although the mayonnaise was thin and disappointing. L's chicken livers were very tender and hot. Our mains were Entrecote with a roquefort sauce, frites and ratatouille and Duck a la Orange; desserts were Mystere de Chocolat - hazelnut ice cream in a dark chocolate sauce - and Poire Belle Helene - both perfectly acceptable but - like the rest of the meal - nothing you'd include in your postcard home. The Groundhog Day moment came after our dessert was cleared. Five minutes later the same waiter turned up again with our desserts all over again. Then he was on the phone to his friend for ages, and the new young guy couldn't figure how to swipe my credit card, so Le Patron yelled at the waiter to get off the phone… Chaos, that's my theory! I don't want to knock this place, they were disorganised but friendly, the food was standard French Restaurant fare, unimaginative but adequately done. However, if I were walking down le rue du Pot de Fer again, I'd try one of the many others. OK DM 2002
