There are two distinct Rubira's: the back part is a hotel (pub) where they serve cheap and cheerful no frills food. We ate there a few weeks ago and it was fine. Last night we ate at the restaurant in the front, overlooking the ocean, a much grander affair. We tried to book a table for two on the previous day, but were told by an arrogant man there was nothing at present, but we could "try calling in half an hour" We did so and were told the only time they could possibly fit us in was 6pm but they would need the table back by 8.15. So you can imagine how we felt, sitting from 6pm to 7.40pm (when we left) in a room no more than 60% full. The young lady who served us was young, pretty and sweet but didn't know the menu and didn't have a clue. We got the wrong wine, then they had run out of the one we wanted; our vegetables arrived just as we were finishing our food. The food itself was excellent, especially the Lobster Bisque and the Mussels in Wine and Tomato, with honorable mention to the Boarfish in batter with fat chips and King Dory in Banana Leaf. Perhaps its better to go a bit later in the season, when the staff know what they are doing (and how to take a booking with civility) Approved (but only just, and only because of the food) Jan 2006 DM
