Starving on a weekday lunch time, a colleague and I decided to visit this ‘eat as much as you wish’ Chinese eatery. We thought it a good idea as the food is already prepared, buffet style, so there is not so much worry about getting back to the office. How it works is you order your drinks then go up and grab your starters.
On offer the day we visited were various chicken bits (very much like the dreaded turkey twizzlers featured in Jamie Oliver’s school dinners program), potato waffles!, chips!, and then more traditional spare ribs, wanton and spring rolls. A selection of sauces were also on offer. The chicken satay I had was awful at best, with the chicken inside the fatty casing a pinkish colour in the middle, I promptly left it on the plate after one bite. The various other unidentifiable chicken pieces were bland and fatty. The sweet chilli dip was also of poor quality. The best bit was probably the spring rolls but you can hardly go wrong with them!!! Onto the mains!! Fortunately these proved to be of slightly better quality although it would have been remarkable if they had been worse! I had a mixture of various beef and gravy dishes, some peppered pork and some crispy duck (more limp and soggy!!) with pancakes. In fairness for £9 each we did leave rather full. The idea I suppose is not a bad one if that is what flicks your switch. Although it seems cheap to eat as much as you like for £9, I’m sure you would be very full if you spent the same at a good quality take away. The only plus points were the reasonably good service and that the restaurant itself was pleasant inside. I doubt I will go back though. The La

The Plague
Cosmo cover all of their food in Peanut Oil, so as to encourage people to eat less; During our last visit, they did not have any food available (owing to a large party) and we consequently confronted the manager to discuss the matter:
Us: Hello, it says on your menu that you have 60 dishes available but you don't seem to have any food available this evening.
Manager: 60 dishes are only available in the big Cosmo restaurants, this one is a small one.
Us: That's fine, but there is still no food available. We've been here several times and wondered if you can provide more food or offer us a discount accordingly?
Manager: No discount, I never see you before, if you don't like don't come.
Us: Rest assured we will not be coming again.

I’ve been to Cosmo quite a
I’ve been to Cosmo quite a few times, and whilst definitely not up to Michelin standards, its fine for what it is, in fact it’s a lot better. Considering its all you can eat, you don’t have to do the washing up, and you can try a small amount of any number of dishes, typically for less than £10 a head, cheaper than my Chinese takeaway last night that cost £21 for two. My colleagues visiting from the Far East say its pretty good as well. The food does not, typically, hang around long, and I’ve never been unwell after a visit – read up on what happens to cooked rice when it is left around too long (Bacillus Cereus). And we have always found the service to be excellent. Hope I got my spelling mostly right – Top Cat.
COSMO Tunbridge Wells
It's not like that now! And in our experience never was. Lots of choice, well-presented on white china dishes, not the 'school dinner' metal bins often favoured in this type of restaurant. Salt & pepper/chilli king prawns, good satay sauce, sushi with pickled ginger, wasabi and soy, interesting vegetable combinations, Thai chicken, lots of desserts (some a little eccentric I will admit). Take NO NOTICE of the earlier review!

Cosmo
Do you work there, per chance?
cosmo
went on saturday 2th august to cosmo. busy, very nice selection of food on offer, well cooked and refilled all the time, only downside slow at taking away plates.
Tunbridge wells, RUDE AGRESSIVE and Horrible food.
Where do you start?
Arrived,
Waited to be sat, when sat the prompted the fact that we had a child and that she was eating, after saying NO she will not be eating she again went on about being charged.
Food,
Dry looking and hassle to wait for, as if you want more they will make it for you but buffet is meant to be fresh and ready not sitting there waiting to be eaten HOURS LATER, when they do bring it out they put On TOP yes ON TOP of the OLD FOOD, so the 1st batch that was made 4hrs ago is still there and would have 2048 bacteria SPAWNS and that’s if it was there only 4hrs ago, imagine if there was more on top of that. Not particularly hot at all, warm I would say, (Just the right temp for breading)
Staff,
I can understand that there not of this country but RUDE is off the SCALE. I showed the manager the food and the issues I have and he started getting aggressive and loud. And when I said i'm not willing to the full amount he stared getting really loud and making a point of fresh when asked for, he did offer to take drinks off but he knew we had TAP WATER.
CAN I POINT OUT THE IDEA OF BUFFET IS THAT ITS THERE READY, HOT AND NOT HAVING THE HASSLE TO ORDER IT, IF I WANTED TO GOTO A RESTAURANT I WOULD HAVE DONE.
After having a dispute with the Manager I walked out and was abused by the rude staff while I had my daughter in my arms and was held up in the street until the police turned up.
Summery
I will not be GOING into any COSMO’s branch ever.
COSMO
I 110% agree with the comments made above and will be taking th matter further, how any establishment can display food which looks hours old and then spend hours replenishes and still think they can charge for it is beyond me.
DO NOT USE COSMO, FRIENDS HAVE FELT ILL AFTER EATING HERE - WAGAMAMA IS FAR BETTER AND SERVICE IS EXCEPTIONAL
Cosmos.
We have a 4 year old & have often eaten at Cosmo's , the food is of a good standard, eat as much as you want, fixed price, the Hastings Cosmo's is massive, the Eastbourne Cosmos is smaller, & the tunbridge wells cosmos is the same, the nicest Cosmo's is Hastings by far, The staff are always nice. We have always had a nice eating experiance at all Cosmo's Restaurants & Ben our son likes it, they cater for children, & do nuggets & chips, Ben loves the Chocolate fountain with marshmallows. I think the lady that had the police called for refusing to pay is a pratt, as for causing all that trouble, & you had your young child with you is disgraceful. People like you should not be allowed in too restaurants." Eat at MacDonalds ". Moron.
Cosmos Tunbridge Wells
I think that you are the type of person that would complain about anything anywhere. I have always found the staff helpfull, quiet and vert attentive and the food fresh.
Cosmo
I am quite surprised by the bad reviews cosmo is getting. My husband works in TWells and I often meet him at cosmo for a quick lunch, the restaurant is extreemly clean and modern, I have always found the staff very friendly and attentive and the food is fresh and appetising? Yes you do get chips etc as well but this is good for the children as ours dont like chinese food, there is a great selection of starters (I thought the satay was very good), salt and pepper king prawns, ribs, duck with pancakes, prawn toast etc etc etc, the mains are also very varied and good. I always make sure I get there at 12 so all the food has just been put out and is very fresh. All in all I think it is good food at a great price, infact we are all going there for lunch today!!
