They claim to be the farthest North Thai food restaurant in the world, and they probably are. We’d been told before we arrived in Fairbanks that for some unknown reason there were several Thai restaurants here. This did not seem remarkable, there are Thai restaurants in every major city. When we got here, it gradually dawned that Thai restaurants are the only “ethnic” restaurants in Fairbanks. I’m not counting generic “Italian” pizza and pasta places, of course, which are now really American food.
Thai House was crowded, and for a very good reason, the food is authentic and delicious. It was only wednesday night, but no seats free when we arrived, but they gave us a menu and said there would be a table in 5 minutes. Having placed our order before we sat down, the food arrived quickly. Green Thai seafood curry for me, green Thai chicken for L. You can choose mild, medium or very spicy. Real Thai beer for less than $5, and a large tureen of steamed rice is set on the table. There are several notices apologising for the increase in the price of rice from $1 to $2, but the portions are very generous. The service was sweet and swift, and the food tasted as if we were in Bangkok - best meal we've had in Fairbanks so far.
