The Weavers, London Rd Southborough Tunbridge Wells Kent TN4London Rd Southborough Tunbridge Wells Kent TN4 01892 529896 The art of the Sunday roast lunch is fast disappearing. True, thousands of establishments still offer their attempt at it - the traditional roast beef and yorkshire pud (often out of a packet), roast chicken, etc with a selection of limp, overcooked vegetables and thousands of nasty frozen garden peas. It's a delight to report that the Weavers in Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, offers perhaps the best Sunday lunch that Spy has ever encountered. A choice of beef or turkey (at least on the occasion we visited), and a "mixed roast" - yes, you've guessed it, beef AND turkey - came piled teeteringly high with a scrumptious stuffing and a yorkshire pud proudly on top, with a moat of gravy surrounding. Roast vegetables came in seperate bowls - giant roast potatoes, perfectly fluffy with a crunchy coating, along with roast leeks, parsnips and carrots. Superb. Prices are reasonable at around £7.95 for a vast plate - a snip compared to what you get at the normal £4.95/£5.95 establishments. This really is one of those few places that get something absolutely right and are quietly proud of it - queues of customers on the day we went obviously know. But now it's out - this is a spy secret. A must. M |
