Out of the way country pub thing. Was a bit perturbed to see such a lovely old place being a chain pub (Vintage Inns) but hoped it wouldn't make any difference to the food. Menu mainly traditional but usally 'with a twist'. one of my companions ordered the minestrone soup as a starter, which was a meal in itself! A really hearty, chunky soup with the biggest doorstop of bread I've ever seen. For main, I was torn between the yummy sounding Sausage and Cheddar Mash with bacon, mushroom and garlic gravy, and the Hunters Chicken. Opted for the latter and wished I'd gone for the mash. Although the chicken was done to perfection the BBQ sauce was far too rich and there wasn't enough cheese for my liking. The Veg (carrots and leeks) were on the wrong side of crunchy but the cheesy mash was superb (oh I wish I'd had the Mash dish!). The others all had roast beef (well it was Sunday)and the opinion was good. An above average chain pub with mains priced around £6-7. I would like to return to try some of the other meals. Would give it 7/10. Lola
