The White Horse Inn at Woolley Moor near Alfreton has celebrity pictures of Gary Lineker, Frank Bruno and the like adorning its walls. The occasional award also litters the walls - Derbyshire food pub of the year 1998 for example - but food here is secondary to the vast pub garden out the back, eons of space for running with a children's playground backing on to a football field. Our junior agents were able to lose themselves while we struggled with the drinks and food - impossible preposterous plate-fulls of standard english "grub". The kids plates somehow cluttered with crockery - little mini ramekin bowls for their beans - meant that much of this food was left untouched, but we struggled through ours - enjoying the quantity rather than the quality. Prices generally good at around about £5 for a plate. M

turned around

Since the change of hands about a year ago... i can tell you this place is OUTSTANDING!!!! The new owners have totally refurbished this once grotty pub into a beautiful welcoming place, inkeeping with the age of the place yet modern and light and not a frank bruno picture in sight!!!!!

The food is amazing but with 1 chef having worked with gordon ramsey and the other hving worked in many michelin stared restaurants im not suprised!! what is suprising is how reasonable the prices are.

I always bring guests here to impress!!!

I think a full carpark, restaurant and bar says it all!!!!!

too many exclamation marks...

this comment has to have come from the owners or someone close to them.

ps I never said it was a grotty pub.

too many exclamation marks

Yes, didn't eat any of the food, just looked in the car park and interviewed the chefs.

EH?

I never said u thought it was a grotty pub. I thought it was grotty last time i went. food was crap...... am i not entitled to praise somewhere iv been that i enjoy? clearly not. maybe u shoud look up the word democracy... and the saying freedom of speach...

Just my opinion....

Ok so i just stumbled upon this page when looking for the telephone number for the white horse and thought id stick in my 2 pennies worth!

Just wanted to say that actually the place is dead nice and i always go with my mum on sundays.

And in no way do i want to offend anyone but i thought that M was a touch harsh. I thought you would have liked and updated review? I mean it has had new people in who seem nice.

I have eatn there before the change and it wasnt awful but neither was it a recommender! We saw the pub when we were walking dogs and it was dead busy so thought it must have gotten a bit better and when we went in we found out things were different

I dont think that person sounded like they hadnt eaten there, on the contrary, they sounded like they might just have found some where they really like. I mean thats what this site is for isnt it? To rave about good food? And really the standard of food is very good. And portings are quite big which i would rarely complain about he he!

Hoping this is taken well and without causing an unfair backlash like the last person did! Maybe we are both wrong and maybe you've been since and had a bad expearience. if thats the case accept my apologies for my 2 pennies worth! :) :) :)
