La Tasca, 4 Queens Square Liverpool L1 1RH4 Queens Square Liverpool L1 1RH 0151 709 7999 Having gone back home to enjoy Liverpools victory over Chelsea in the Champions league semi final, myself and Mrs La decided to nurse the hangover from the night before with a refreshing Tapas meal, before the long drive back to our residence in Kent. Nestled amongst the impressively re-developed Queens Square, alongside a Nando's, Bar Med and Marriott hotel, lies La Tasca. Dubbed an authentic Spanish Tapas Bar & Restaurant, it has a pleasant terrace to sit outside. Alternatively you can obviously opt to sit inside, which we did. I must confess, I was actually unaware that this was a 'chain' restaurant. Upon entering, we were greeted by a pleasant Spanish chap (a good start) and shown to our table immediately. Due to the long drive ahead, Mrs La was only able to drink Diet Coke. I was able to order a beer from the impressive list of Spanish lagers. I chose the Estrella Damm which is an extremely refreshing drop, even though I am a 'dyed in the wool' bitter drinker. Being a Tapas restaurant, we ordered a number of dishes to share. There is a large selection,(too large to list, but it may be worth checking the website!)and we decided on the following (in English!): Garlic bread with cheese, chicken in white wine & garlic, mushrooms sauteed in garlic & olive oil, traditional Spanish cured Serrano ham, piquillo pepper stuffed with spinach and coated in a creamy sauce and breadcrumbed and battered king prawns. All were small dishes and reasonably priced. The stuffed pepper was extremely nice as was the ham. The let down was the prawns which were only luke warm and not particularly pleasant. The service was quite slow, but it was a busy lunchtime. For £30 including 2 beers, 2 cokes and tip, you could say we got what we paid for. I would certainly go again as it is a convenient option for lunch. The La |
