Lunchtime in historic town; bit peckish; spot restaurant; check menu and prices in window; go in, sit down and (in the appropriate place) have much needed slash. The decor in Sol is a bit pastel and Ikeaoid but the service we had on a Sunday lunchtime was extremely good, as was the food. I went for tomato and basil tagliatelle and the misses had cesar salad with unusually excellent anchovies. The offspring had a superb fishcake (tasted like salmon to me) with home made tartare sauce and big fat chips. It was all fresh as you like, nicely presented and (HOORAH!) piping hot. It all arrived at the same time and we spent less than £20, including soft drinks. Sol do events too. For 2003 it's Traditional Home Cooking on Mothering Sunday, Fish on Friday in April (requests taken), and French Regional Cooking, same month. Well done chaps. Perry Stalsis 2003
