My partner and I came here the other evening. Having stopped at the nearby Castle Inn, we decided to venture slightly further for our evening meal. The White Dog is quite a quaint old pub, serving decent well kept ale in nice surroundings, with great views to nearby Bodiam Castle.

They have an extensive bar menu as well as specials and a restaurant menu. However, these can be mixed and matched, which I think is quite a nice little touch.

We started with Chicken Goujons with a satay sauce, we decided to share these, which was definately a wise decision. They weren't your standard 'birds eye' style goujons, but whopping six inch things, hot and crispy and served with a well presented salad.

I plumped for the Lamb shank served with creamy mash and a mint gravy, the lamb was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone and the accompanying vegetables came out piping hot. My partner went for Sausage, Egg and chips. The sausages, I believe, were a local variety and were, my partner said they were certainly very good. I don't think I have ever seen such a large portion of chips.....and they were steaming hot and crisp.

We both left very satisfied and extremely full. All this with drinks and tip came to just £35. Absolute bargain. I would recommend going for the views alone.
