Rage - a pub in East Sussex

East Sussex

I decided to take lunch at the B********** in East Sussex, a traditional free house just off the A26. On entering the bar I was greeted with a classic country pub interior, enhanced by a mouth-watering aroma eminating from the kitchen. "This'll be a good one" I thought. I ordered a pint of Coke at the bar. Then I discovered it - the soft drinks scam which the pub is operating to rip its customers off. What I received was a pint glass of Coke (actually Pepsi) that had been filled at least an inch from the top. And I was expected to pay over two pounds for it. The reason? The pub doesn't sell Coke on draught, only in small bottles. And unfortunately for you, dear patron, a pint equals approximately two and a half of these small bottles. So it's heads they win, tails you loose, you get two bottles of Coke and half a bottle of air in your glass but still have to pay the full price. Oh, and if you ask them to open a third bottle to displace the aforementioned air, they'll happily do so but your bill will then be increased to three pounds thirty pence. Basil Fawlty would really feel at home running this place. So why is the pub getting away with it? Because they're the only pub in the area, they're a free house meaning that no-one can complain to big brother, and they rely heavily on passing trade. Worst of all, under current law, they're allowed to get away with it. I did try the food which was adequate, although needless to say it was on the pricey side. But the pub gets a resounding rejection for its disgusting soft drinks scam. My advice? LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! Dunorlan
