Cuppage Terrace is virtually nothing but restaurants, and the whole street is full of tables. I don't think many even have inside tables, because without air conditioning, it's better outside. This place didn't look any more promising than the rest, but it's in the Rough Guide, and we fancied Thai. I ordered Tom Yam Seafood with vegetable noodles and L ordered Crab & Ginger Curry with Tofu noodles. The waiter should have told us that our both our dishes came with Fried Noodles anyway, shouldn't he? But if he did, we misunderstood, and ended up with far more food than we could possibly eat. Worse still, every morsel was scrumptious. My Tom Yam was complex yet mighty, and brought tears to my eyes. Without being asked the waiter silently brought a box of tissues and left them on the table. L's Crab and Ginger tasted of those two ingredients and lots of other South East Asian flavours, and it had big lumps of crab in it, and slivers of fresh ginger. And such a big serving. Then all the extra noodles - it was hell! We kept trying to get each other's help, we paused to catch our breath and swig Tiger Beer, but in the end were defeated and couldn't finish. The bill came to S$65.60 (about 25 quid) but obviously one could eat for less if one wasn't so greedy. Cuppage Terrace is walking distance from Orchard Road, and this place is definitely worth seeking out. 2001 DM
