From the outside, looking for a nice cool place to eat lunch with Q, Mint seemed a fairly safe choice in the culinary no mans land of mid Clerkenwell. There's class to the north and south of this place so easy peasy to fill the gap. But no - Mint is a disaster.

The decor is defiantly trendy - heavy "Oceana" style chairs and lots of glassware and cutlery on the table but it all seemed a bit like playing modern restaurants. Conran does this exact kind of thing much better elsewhere and this eating experience was dire.

We almost had to wave flags in front of the waitress to get noticed and menus arrived a bit too late for comfort. The food - shared starter of seared duck salad was alright, but Q had to spit out the last piece of duck because it was so chewy. Main courses arrived later - well, to be honest a lot later - after everybody else had been served. They were grim - a smoked salmon, avocado and dill tagliatelle was leaden, tagliatelle horrendously overcooked and Q's Thai chicken red curry looked hilarious - a chicken quarter perilously propped on top of a mound of rice. It tasted ok but was misleading in that there was no slurpy sauce to mop up with the rice.

An espresso coffee was not true espresso just to round up the all round misery. The bill came to over £40 - cost us a mint. M
