We saw an ad in the Sydney Morning Herald: $25 for two courses, and after 3 hours on Narrabeen Beach we wandered in, wearing shorts, flip flops and covered in sand. We got a really friendly welcome, they found us a seat with a panoramic view and showed me to the cool, well appointed washroom where I was able to scrape off most of the sand and have a good wash before sitting down. The room is cool, crisp and beige, with white napery, big windows and ocean views - like something out of an architectural magazine.
Four choices of main, including steak, but we both chose grilled barramundi with pumpkin and spinach, with dill and a champagne sauce. It arrived promptly and was exactly right. We refused garlic bread - need to keep the calorie intake down a bit if we want to hang out on the beach - and chose a couple of beers from a good selection. Desserts were a Mango Panna Cotta with passionfruit for me, Peach Melba for L, and with two coffees, it came to $69, which is well under 30 quid. The best kind of Aussie restaurant, friendly, civilized, good food, relaxed, elegant modern room, very reasonable prices. It's not far from Sydney, so if you fancy a day on the beach, don't bother with a picnic - this is the place. Approved. DM Jan 2007
