"Even if you just visit the brassiere for the view it is a delight. We plumped for the restaurant for a birthday treat. Starters were average, the lobster with wasbai dressing being a bit of a disappointment. The mains did, however more than make up for it. Steak and Guinea Fowl cooked to perfection - accompanied with perfectly wilted spinach and mashed potatoes you could bathe in. Dessert was a treat especially so as they decorated my partners plate with a candle and chocolate writing happy birthday - reservations deserve the thanks as they obviously picked this up when booking. Pricey at £150 for two with only £35 bottle of wine. Oh but the view and the mash.........." Al&Al

Now I know we can't all go to Whitechapel to taste probably the best Indian food in the world, but take it from me - if you're visiting London this is a destination restaurant.

Its BYO - bring your own wine, etc - so its all eyes down for the food menu. You almost cannot spend too much money here. I went with a group of people, ate far too much until I was fit to burst and it came to twelve quid each.

Nam Bistro, 326, Upper St London N1 2XQ

326, Upper St London N1 2XQ

Its always empty and the service is always slightly dreamy, but Nam Bistro serves some of the best Vietnamese food in London. Vegetarian Spring Rolls came with shards of crispy lettuce, coriander and mint and a spicy chilli dip, while main courses of chicken curry and sizzling seafood were delightful. We resisted the "palate-tickling chicken with honey and ginger" but have noted it for the next time. A huge list of one-plate meals were also available to keep the prices well within our budget. A real quiet gem. M

Myung Ga, 1 Kingly Street London W1B 5PA

1 Kingly Street London W1

I am particularly fond of Korean food, and having been given the brush off by the frankly over-priced Gaucho Grill (I wanted beef you see) it did not take long to find another destination that would satisfy my sad little obsession. There's always a pondering formality in Korean restaurants and the bill always seems to creep up frighteningly, but I have rarely left a Korean restaurant un-satisfied, under-fed or cheated. Myung Ga was no exception and our beef steak fillet (in perfect rounds) came marinated in two different sauces - absolutely fine and delicious. Kim Chi was fiery - sour leaves in a hot chili sauce and crispy seaweed in sheets of salty wafers. As always there was a feeling of "charging up" - only one rice? - but we struggled through and came away cheered by a night in the West End. M

Pancakes. Huge great big ones. I'm not kidding, they really are impressively large. Lots of different toppings, savoury or sweet, so it almost feels like an alternative Pizza Hut except the food tastes good, it has a pleasant ambience and there are no posters of Ruud Gullit from a TV ad three years ago. Its not cheap but unlikely to break the bank either. And they have a few good Dutch and Belgian beers to choose from. Approved King Mob

Mr Fish, 51 Salusbury Rd London NW6 6NJ

51 Salusbury Rd London NW6 6NJ

It's not always easy to find a reliably good fish and chippery but next time you're visiting Queens - no apostrophe - Park try Mr Fish. It's a common-or-garden chippy but of high quality. You can sit down or take away and they are polite and helpful. It's clean, with no tell-tale congealed yurgh around the sauce dispensers. Hot, generous and proper-strength tea. Chips always hot, never twice fried, same for fish. Excellent mushy dayglo peas still visible when you turn out the lights, a sure index of quality; also hot. Pies, sausages etc: what you'd expect. Tried the spring roll once; oh dear! Stick to fish and chips. Mid-price. Perry Stalsis

Mosaica @ The Factory, The Chocolate Factory, Clarendon Road, London, N22 6XJ

The Chocolate Factory, Clarendon Road, London, N22 6XJ

It's a word-of-mouth place secreted away (yes really) in an old Chocolate Factory in Wood Green. We took so long finding it, via what seemed like a private club and a scared security guard, that we were relieved when we saw a small blackboard with the word "Mosaica" and a few scant directions. Through the doors of what seemed like an old civil service office and in to an inner courtyard there, finally, triumphantly, we encountered our goal.

1) Oh look, I know other restaurant spies have been here, and I've been twice before and it's wonderful, but this is the last week of the FT lunches, and that's all the excuse I need. There were three of us - the other two had Octopus, paprika and caperberry salad: light and tender and I had Chicory and cabralis salad with sweet sherry dressing, which was absolutely amazing. Cabralis is a dry, blue cheese, deliciously reminiscent of stale stilton and it was crumbled over the chicory leaves, with the sherry drizzled over. Doesn't sound too promising does it? Fab, darling, trust me.

This site, on the corner of New North Road, has had plenty of different types of eatery or bars in the last few years but looks to have settled now as a cosy little French bistro. It is often very full and the menu looks great, with variety and interesting looking dishes. It is not overly cheap but not outrageously expensive either and I was looking forward to a pleasant Sunday lunch. The service was quite slow because they were busy rather than lack of effort from the staff. I ordered lapin a la moutard with potatoes and my mouth was watering by the time it arrived (I had finished my drink ten minutes earlier and no one had come to ask if we wanted anything else). Sadly, it was a bowl of bony rabbit which appeared to have had the flavour boiled out of it, sitting in pool of watery, rather tasteless grey something. And three pieces of spud. Maybe it was just an off day but they really should have done better than this. Rejected King Mob
