The Kings Arms, Rotherfield, East Sussex TN6 3LJ

I'm not sure why the Kings Arms has slipped through Spy's fingers over the many years we've done the site, but it has. Perhaps its because we've always tended to settle over a fine pint of beer in the back garden, which has some fine views over the fields behind it and when anybody fancied a bit of nosh we, for one reason or another, declined.

The Star and Eagle Hotel, High Street, Goudhurst, Cranbrook, Kent, TN17 1AL

The last time we visited - some seven years ago, we had a very pleasant, undemanding meal sitting outside looking out over the wonderful views from the beer garden.

The OXO Tower Restaurant - London

The OXO Tower has an interesting history, first constructed as a power station, then converted by the manufacturers of OXO into a cold store and finally, substantially refurbished for its current mixed use.

The Russian Tavern, Seafront, Port Bannatyne, Isle of Bute, Argyll, Scotland

The west coast of Scotland with deep lochs, isles and mountainous scenery must be the best sailing in Europe. But finding a place to eat well in the evening is a bit difficult, frozen packet meals , rubber chicken and frozen pizza seem to be regarded as high cuisine in these parts.

The Golden Galleon, Eastbourne Rd, Exceat, Seaford, East Sussex, BN25 4AB

With startling views over Cuckmere Haven and the Seven Sisters Country Park, the Golden Galleon pub is a day trip draw for families, large groups, bikers and so on near Seaford in East Sussex. The pub's history harkens back to the smuggling days, as testified by the many small blackboards littering the cavernous inside area, refurbished in 2003, and this, with the sprawling outside areas, means that on any given day hundreds of meals can be served.

BadOtter on Positano's best kept secret.

Ristorante ''Da Andrea'' Hotel Villa, Santa Maria di Castellabate, Italy

The following report is the reason why I rarely visit Italian restaurants in the UK, which I find overpriced, most stuck in a sixties timewarp(veal in marsala anyone?) and pale imitations of the establishments, like this, still in existence in many regions of Italy.

Hix’s Oyster and Fish House, Lyme Regis, Dorset

Mark Hix had recently left Caprice Holdings (owners of J Sheeky, Caprice and the Ivy) to establish two of his own restaurants’. The first being Hix’s Oyster and Chop House and the second established in his native Dorset. Though I have heard that he does not cook at this restaurant, only oversees at the weekend.

"We promised ourselves we wouldn't do this" said Q. We had ducked off the M25 on the way back from a short break, the rain had cancelled out everybody's sunny smiles and a traffic jam in front had made it pretty necessary to head off and into deepest, darkest Surrey for a beer and a sandwich.

And here was I navigating aimlessly down what seemed to be a suburban road trying to find "a pub that's by the river". "Look there's a place called Riverhouse, that's bound to be by the river". It wasn't, but a short trundle afterwards found us facing a bunch of thirty swans, looking menacing or hungry - I couldn't work out which - at the river standing beside a pub called The Swan. Bouncers probably.

King's Road Arches, Brighton BN1 2LN

I visited this establishment on Friday 9 May 2008. Famed for it's location right on the seafront, with views from Worthing down towards Brighton Marina. This was a balmy Sussex evening and the London crowd was out in force.

The first shock was how quiet the downstairs bar was, compared to the bustle of the other bars. On reflection it may have been down to the lack of bar staff! We went up the stone staircase to the upstairs restaurant. This looked fabulous with floor to ceiling windows, offering superb views and light wood tables with modern but calming fixtures. We asked a gentleman for a table, but this was ignored. Eventually after feeling like the invisibles we were led to a window table and settled down.
