First off (and I wouldn’t normally complain about something so trivial but while I’m at it I may as well include this incident) I ordered a bottle of wine from the waitress, I specifically said “please can I have a bottle“, she asked if I’d like 2 glasses, and then appeared with 2 glasses of wine and no bottle. I apologised (heaven only knows why as it wasn't my error) & explained I'd wanted a bottle (as ordered) and the waitress sighed in irritation at me and rolled her eyes.

Wow! What a solid building opening it's doors to reveal a sumptious interior styled with modern and clear lines, we're meet and greeted and off to the low lit bar for pre dinner drinks at ahem rather latitude prices, still we're here to sample and indulge. Shown to our table, we numbered seven and were sat in a crescent shaped booth with the silver string curtains providing privacy without taking the view away from our fellow diners. Cutlery and crockery impeccable place on the surface... then we wait 5 mins.. 10 mins.. 15 mins and finally we catch the eye of the waiting staff in black, order drinks and then we wait 5 mins.. 10 mins.. 20 mins, we despatch a member of the group to track down the drinks, they arrive 5 mins later. 40 minutes from being seated to tasting liquid.

Rusholme, Manchester The glitsy, upmarket facade of Hanan instills hope of paralleled style and taste in its (supposed) Indian style dishes. The blue, gleaming, modern interior lures its victims towards sudden dissapointment for not only could the food be straight from a tin marked Sainsbury's but it's waiting staff defy description. Either they were rude and aloof or plain weird: our waiter insisted on putting 'friends and colleagues' in a droney accent before everything he said.

Remember what Pizza Express used to be like? Delicious pizzas in a variety of rather well specified and clean resaurants with efficient staff. Well, we were in Manchester with J from the Beeb and he said he knew the place for lunch. He took us to Croma a very spacious and airy pizza place much like I remember Pizza Express. 'Oh,' he said, 'I think the manager used to run a Pizza Express place and has now set this one up on his own.' Anyhow it was friendly, they were busy but found us a nice table quickly, the bogs were exemplary, the service efficient and very quick and, yes, the food was hot.
