A number of correspondents have asked us, nay begged us, to re-evaluate the trendy Indian restaurant Kirthon. Situated in a Pantiles loft in Tunbridge Wells and gobbing distance from the vast curry hangar Masala, Kirthon has been quietly plying its trade of genuinely interesting and varied dishes from the sub-continent over the past year.

The decor and cutlery is modern and obviously upmarket and there is a plasma screen on the wall showing bhangra and bollywood trailers. Our previous visit was spoiled by what appeared to be an over-zealousness in salty seasonings, but we are pleased to announce that this appears to have been rectified and our starters and main courses were beautifully made and presented with tasteful care. A particular favourite was a starter of minced lamb cooked with mango and chilli on a puri, and balti and other dishes had a pleasant zing.

A massive improvement, an interesting and diverse menu and well worth a visit. M
