We came here in a group the other weekend. I had been wanting to try it for a while, so decided to take the plunge and give it a go. It was actually a toss up between this and St Agostino (sic?) but the Sicilian won, after looking on this site! When we arrived the restaurant was quite empty, which was worrying for a Saturday evening. There was, however, a large party situated on the lower floor, but this seemed to be the only other customers there.

The restaurant internally is very pleasant, and they also have a chap playing the piano, who we found, to some of the elder members of the parties delight, also did requests. Service was good and not overpowering, I say this as I hate to be constantly bothered with an unmeaningful 'is everything ok?'. The wine list is good and there is a fair bit of choice on the menu, I would say something to cater for everyone. Plenty of fish dishes, meat dishes and of course pasta. There is an entry at the front of the menu that explains the sicilians take Italian cooking and add their own edge to it. We started off with bread rolls and olives, I have to say the olives were indeed very nice. We decided between us we would just go straight for mains. This is my gripe. For what you get, it is extremely expensive. I had a Steak with asparagus and jus de viande (sic) which was very nice, but at £17 served only with 4 potatoes and a very small portion of asparagus was pretty steep. Bearing in mind you could have similar at Hotel Du Vin (with veg) for £14.50. My partner opted for farfelle (I believe) with prawns, garlic and sundried tomato, well presented but said it did become a tad bland. One accomplice opted for Risotto, which again was very nice although the portion was small and again expensive for what it was! Another accomplice had a similar steak to mine and thoroughly enjoyed it, but also complained about lack of veg etc... She refused to pay the £4.50 for a small portion of garlic spinach that I had opted for. The final member of the clan had Calamari, which was actually very impressive. The highlight of the night is the mentioned waiter in the previous review of this place. He was very entertaining and joined us for a drink afterwards, a good humoured gentleman, who also told us a lot about the history of Sicily and brought out a book for one of the party to look through!! Overall a good experience, but I feel an OK is in order as I have had better food elsewhere at more reasonable prices. If they insist on retaining the prices they should perhaps think about increasing the portions.
