Tuo e Mio
16 The Borough, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2DR 01227 761471
It was Sunday night and we were in Herne Bay. We looked around for somewhere to eat but there was nowhere that was not either closed or full or like a set from 'Deliverance' -so we went to Canterbury instead. We parked up by the river, headed into the centre and almost straight away stumbled across Tuo e Mio, which is in one of the city's more eccentric areas, by the old King's School, near the cathedral. It's of medium size, light and airy with big windows, nicely designed and with the tables well spaced. The table settings are serious old Italian - plenty of glassware, linen napkins etc. and the food is as well, but it's not too heavy and there are lots of flirty bouncy waiters and waitresses who are attentive without being a pain. Antipasta are around £6 and mains are in the £7 - £15 bracket, all coming with potatoes. Veg and side salads are extra. We had veal and chicken. Both were good and the servings were just about the right size. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional. We also enjoyed the background music which sounded like the accompaniment to an Italian silent comedy film. An added bonus is the customer carpark round the back, which I will know about next time - that's a very big deal in Canterbury. Approved. Harry
