Croma
1-3 Clarence Street Manchester M2 4DE 0161 237 9799
Remember what Pizza Express used to be like? Delicious pizzas in a variety of rather well specified and clean resaurants with efficient staff. Well, we were in Manchester with J from the Beeb and he said he knew the place for lunch. He took us to Croma a very spacious and airy pizza place much like I remember Pizza Express. 'Oh,' he said, 'I think the manager used to run a Pizza Express place and has now set this one up on his own.' Anyhow it was friendly, they were busy but found us a nice table quickly, the bogs were exemplary, the service efficient and very quick and, yes, the food was hot. We all had pizzas - proper big ones, done with fresh ingredients. J had an 'English Pizza' which was sausage, eggs and bacon on a pizza base. It looked funny to me but he said it was delicious. Decent wine and everything a modest price. This place is right in the middle of Manchester and would suit birthday groups, retirements, sackings and Christmas dos. Jolly good. PERRY STALSIS 2003
